Wall sconces are apt for directional, safety and ambient lighting

To enhance the décor of your home, you should definitely consider wall sconces for lighting purposes. Once a regular feature in old, stately homes, they have again made a comeback and it is fashionable to flaunt crystal, wooden, glass or metal wall sconces across the house. Modern wall sconces can also be fitted with bulbs unlike the earlier ones when only candles could be put into them. But, even now, if you want the soft glow of light, there is nothing to beat the old-fashioned candlelight in a wall sconce.

You can add to the décor of your home by the usage of wall sconces in various ways. Since wall sconces tend to protrude, you must ensure that these fixtures in hallways, corridors or staircases do not project too much outside otherwise accidents may happen. If your main aim is to provide task lighting with the help of these fixtures, you must use halogen bulbs with clear, white light to get the best results. Wall sconces look best when put up in pairs and they are ideal on either side of beds, doorways, bathroom mirrors or fireplaces.

Newer wall sconces with metal diffusers can double as picture lights by providing powerful up lighting to enhance any work of art or photos. They can also create surrounding light by reflecting light off the ceiling. Stained glass or frosted wall sconces are best for this type of lighting.

These light fixtures are apt for providing soft lighting in the background or directional lighting.
