Wire the Outdoor Lighting by Yourself

Purpose
There are many reasons for having Outdoor lighting near the house and the biggest reason is the security.  If the surrounding of your house is well lighted then it will discourage the burglar to enter into the premises. At the same time proper lighting on the outside will also add to the elegance of the house.

Activities
If you are planning to wire the lighting all by yourself then you can find it quite interesting too. The wiring work for lighting at outdoor location may not be as complicated as wiring of Chandeliers. If you have ever seen how Bathroom Lighting is done then you can surely do this simple project by yourself. Here are a few things that you need to do to complete the job decently.   Let us start with a simple lighting project for your lawn.

Before you start the job you must remember that the wiring of lights may create lots of mess in the compound and hence it is necessary to create a trench in order to conceal the wiring. However, you must make sure to inform the Utility companies about the location of the buried cables.

To start with, decide the location of your lights. Having marked all the locations of the light you must make the planning for the circuit. It is always better to consider parallel circuit. In that case you need not search for the wiring loop if one of the lights ever fails to work. Your trouble shooting exercise will be pretty simple in case of parallel connections.

If your wires are well insulated cables then you can consider of digging the trench and bury them. The trench must be at least 2 feet deep. For better protection of cables you may use conduit pipes and let all the underground cables remain inside the pipe. However, if the insulation of the cable is pretty good then you may avoid using the conduit pipes so that you can make some cut in your project cost.

Now lay the wires inside the trench and cut them at appropriate location where you are going to locate your Outdoor lighting. You must leave enough excess wire for wiring of the lights. Connect all the cut wire to the respective fixtures of the light. Wilmette Lighting can be a good choice for your lawn and you may choose a suitable one based on the décor of the location and your taste.

Finally join all the end of the wires- like the line, neutral and ground points separately and create a junction box. Maintain the same color code example for line - black, for neutral - white and green for ground connection. Now in order to keep all the lights on the same circuit the common points of all the three wires must be joined together along with a single switch and you are done with the wiring.

Give a perfect look:

If you are placing the Outdoor lighting posts in your lawn then you can consider using any traditional stained glass, which may give a perfect look to your outdoor space. You may also get many compliments from your neighbors and friends for doing a decent job all by yourself.
