Some creative ideas for Outdoor Lighting

Outdoor lighting can be a lot of fun to experiment with as it promises a lot of scope for creativity and style that you can apply to accentuate the looks of your exteriors! So if the idea of playing with your outdoor lights appeals to you too and you are in the mood for some exciting house-outdoor makeover, then here are some classic ideas you may like to consider.

One of the most beautiful things that you can do with outdoor lighting is to mount them up on terraces and the protruding and hi-rising parts of your house.  Generally bright lights that can illuminate the surrounding distance well are suggested for these purposes, so as to highlight the best features of your outdoors! You can make extensive use of spot and accent lighting at your favorite points in the garden, so that you can happily enjoy them and show them off even after it grows completely dark! If this kind of lighting system can be installed in a planned order, it can actually produce quite a dramatic effect on the overall outer appearance of your house- something that would definitely make heads turn!

However, if this option feels showy or too loud for your tastes, then another very good idea would be to place soft-dim lights, in an upward direction-pointing to the best features of your garden, statues, fountains, doors, garage, house, etc. For instance 2-3 lights placed at the foot of a statue pointing upwards towards –say to the face of the statue, can create quite a mystical look. Nevertheless this kind of lighting system can never be complete in itself, and thus you would need some ‘utility-purpose lights’ installed too for adequate illumination in pathways, driveways, etc.

Soft illumination can also be used over driveways, patios, decks and other pathways, for that diffused-romantic touch. If you have any waterbed –especially a swimming pool in your outdoors, you can play some great tricks with lights for a rich-luxurious feel. Using water bodies for the ‘mirror effect’ is a very popular and exciting technique that you must opt for. Underwater lighting can also be considered as a great option for pools and water fountains.

If you have a considerably well illuminated outdoor and just wish to play with lights for a creative touch, then the shadow effect can prove to be another very good option. Place lights behind or above trees and objects that could create a nice shadowy effect.

When it comes to outdoor lighting the best part is that you can use lights of all colors, shapes and sizes and hide them or place them in anyway that you prefer-unlike the indoor lighting that needs to follow a lot of restrictions in terms of wiring, décor, color, appearance, etc. Also you can always keep a set of temporary lights handy for all those special parties and festive occasions- when you might like to create some more drama with creative outdoor lighting.
